The 2021 Kentucky Culture Symposium: The Big Picture
On 14 August 2021 The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in The Commonwealth of Kentucky (NSCDA-KY) and the Liberty Hall Historic Site (LHHS) will embark on a new phase in their educational programming with the 2021 Kentucky Culture Symposium. This series of annual programming will explore Kentucky’s unique role in the development of America, and one that creates a bit of an identity crisis for Kentuckians. We began as the New West, settled by the offspring of the old eastern colonial states. Our later generations settled the newer west, named the Old West. It is often said Kentucky was part of the north during the civil war, then became part of the south after the war. This symposium will introduce us to ourselves and our many reincarnations. We will begin to learn, through our artifacts and artisans, how religion, politics, science and the arts shaped us and our Kentucky culture. The 2021 symposium will give us the overview – The Big Picture! Held at the Thomas Hunt Morgan House in Lexington, Kentucky, the 2021 symposium will kick off this new phase in meeting our mission.

Profits will support the Liberty Hall Historic Site ARCS Fund – Phases 1 and 2. ARCS stands for Assess, Repair, Conserve, and Sustain. The Phase1 and 2 projects are current conservation projects, including the back porches of both houses (Liberty Hall and The Orlando Brown House), fencing repairs and conservation, and various maintenance projects.
